I think this is such a great deal. The 3 actual tools are of good enough quality for the work the're intended to do, and purchased separately at the cheapest of the cheap stores would cost you more than this for just 2 of them. (I checked, $4. each for the pliers and wire snips, and it's not even available to buy the rounded pliers for making the rings, unless you go to specialty shops, and there you'll pay more like $16. each!)I like these tools, because they have the spring loaded grips, which pop back open whenever you let off squeezing, and that's a real plus if you're working with them for very long. The plastic grips make them easy to hold onto, and the size is a very nice fit in my hand. (Woman, 5'5" tall). Also, the other tools and boxes are a real plus. I snagged the snippers for my sewing machine, and LOVE them for clipping threads. The tweezers are good for handling tiny beads, and that pointy, rounded scoop is an absolute necessity for anyone trying to scoop up tiny beads and get them back into their tiny vials or baggies. What a great thing that is to have!I LOVE these tiny drawer boxes for storing beads. They hold 6 different kinds of beads or findings, to take along or just store beads in, and they will each separate, so when you're working, you can have all 6 drawers open, and not have to worry about knocking them all over, if you bump one, or pick it up to pour. My drawers all fit snugly, so I'm not worrying about spillage. They are a bit tricky to get back together once you separate them, but after fooling with it, I think they'll stack, too, if you want to try it. I wish I could buy more of just these boxes.I always wash everything I buy, before using it, so while there may have been some oily feel to the tools when they arrived, I just washed everything in soapy water, rinsed, and air dried it all, before putting it all away. Easy peasy, and no more oily feel. (FYI, many inexpensive tools are shipped in an oily container, to help resist rust. Just wash it off, then dry it thoroughly before putting it away. If it's indoors, and not exposed to too much humidity, it shouldn't need the oily finish.)The little blue case is just great, too, It holds everything neatly, and while it's a tight squeeze on some of the tools, the boxes are velcro'd in, so easy to deal with them. Mine zips open and closed very easily, and I think it's a very nicely done pouch, and the contents are surprisingly good quality for this price. I sure wish I'd gotten this, prior to paying the small fortune for some of the tools I'd bought long ago. Excellent starter kit, if you know anyone wanting to just try it. Well worth the money!Good quality tools for jewelry designers.Great kit. Still use it years laterIt was a gift for my momI need to order this again as I lost my previous set, but this beading kit is the best set Ive found that's appropropriate for wire wrapping. I have been wire wrapping crystals for a few years and this set came with everything I needed except for nylon jaw pliers. There are nylon caps you can purchase to go over top of the pliers to make them nylon jawed if you wish, but I prefer the premade ones.I havent had a need for the bead scoop, but i have used ever other piece in this set ample times. All of my pliers were aligned correctly and they didnt feel weak or cheap like those of many other sets i'ved tried in this price range. This is my favourite deal for wireworkers that ive found so far!I have used as thick as 18 gauge wire with these tools and havent had any problems. I highly recommend it and it is likely that Beadalon's kit will be the only one I come back to- especially if I need a kit for travel. If there is any question as to whether or not you will continue your beading or jewelry making hobby, then consider this set as your first set. I found it to have everything I needed to get started, even though I decided to add a better pair of wire looping and nylon covered pliers that did not come with the kit. These are small for me, I wear a men's large glove. A book recommended spring action, which these have. They are dipped in some sort of plastic "comfort" coating, which I find to be anything but... it's very dry on the skin and feels like it holds dirt. After a few cuts of 18g and 20g silver plated wire, the cutters on the blunt nose pliers have already chipped, or perhaps they came that way, and after a few tries at tightening wires the chain nose pliers have already begun to stay in the rotated position. The plastic bins are very tiny, a needle threader fits if I lay it cross ways to a corner, so don't expect them to hold too much. It very much looks like a step above a very nice gift with purchase or perhaps a nice beading seminar gift on which someone would include their company logo. Three stars for utility and they actually included "Econo" in the name, which I do appreciate, and there was no promise or implication of quality. Like I said, use these to see if you like the craft and you won't feel wasteful throwing these in the kitchen drawer for general utility use or in the bin when they fail. The tools in here are actually great, and the case itself is super durable and sturdy... My main problem has actually been one of the cooler items: the tiny bead containers! These silly things pop open in my bag all the time, which means that I'm constantly picking seed beads out of every single thing they come in contact with. I recently started stabilizing it by putting a wooden skewer along the side that the containers open up on and securing it with the velcro... The silly things still seem to find a way to escape!!! Aaaaaaah!!!!! Honestly though, considering how inexpensive these were they're absolutely worth the bother. The snips are very sharp, the wire cutters have never let me down, and a girl can never have too many pairs of pliers. Plus, this fits super nicely in my travel crafting bag, so I'm overall pretty dang pleased with this purchase!I needed this handy little tool kit for a small project that I was working on. The tools are very nicely made and served me well. I already owned some cutters but it was nice to have a spare pair. The plastic storage case was also a nice touch. It really came in handy for storing some smaller parts that I cut. The only reason that I did not give this tool kit 5 stars is because of the elastic bands that hold the tools in place. Although I think it was a good idea to have something to keep the tools in place, the bands often made it difficult to remove some of the tools. It was a huge deal, but I wish that it was a bit easier. Other than that, this is a must have kit.
