I work as a stocker at a home improvement store. So I cut down a lot of boxes, some days more than others. I bought the one with the red handle and this little gem is so amazing. And it's made in Japan, why is it that the really superb/nifty objects like this come from Japan? The round beveled tip allows you to easily slip the blade between to pieces of cardboard and cut the tape. It slices through the cardboard itself super smoothly as well. There is a bit of a learning curve as it definitely handles differently than traditional razor type box cutters that basically like to get away from you and do whatever they want and the other flat type safety cutters that require you force the cutter through the tape/cardboard before you can try to cut with it. With this Canary you can just lightly skim the surface once or twice to make an opening that you can easily slide the blade through to make your cut.I have small hands so many box cutters are too big but this one fits comfortably while still being substantial enough to maintain a good grip.I actually carry two traditional razor type box cutters and two of those flat safety cutters as well in my work uniform and this is by far my favorite. I got in the habit of carrying around so many box cutters because one would be better for normal taped boxes, another would be better for cutting through straps, and another would be better for actually cutting though the card board, none of them were good with removing labels. This canary has been doing it ALL and has been doing it like a champ for the past two months. I think I can start carrying a couple less box cutters from now on.The only complaint I could possibly have is that it sometimes gets rather gunked up with adhesive from the tape it cuts through, but it doesn't affect it's performance at all. However, it kinda self cleans which is awesome as I'll keep cutting my way through boxes and the adhesive that is gunked on the blade will magically disappear. Though that is more of a complaint about the quality of tape that is used to tape the boxes together than anything else.I am going to spend the extra dollar and get the pink handled one this time and see if the non stick coating will make much of a difference. Now that I've experienced how amazing a Canary is I don't think I can go back to the traditional stuff. I am even contemplating engraving my name into the handle incase it get lost. I almost lost it today and it made me realize how much I have really come to love it and that I definitely want a back up ready to go in case I do actually lose it. Thus, I am buying another one now.Easy to use, cuts pretty clean but not as clean as the matte knife. Bought this for our 9 yo, would recommend demonstrating how to safely use it as he did get a couple minor cuts (have gotten him cutting gloves since) -but much better than scissors and asking us to constantly cut for him with a knife!if you're like me and my family and order lots of items from Amazon and other places on the web you accumulate lots of cardboard boxes. You have to try to fold them into small enough squares to fit in the recycle bin, but those corrugated boards are hard to bend. This tool makes it easy to cut them! I mean easy! If you buy one you won't be disappoint. This thing is awesome for breaking down boxes and making things out of cardboard! It makes it so much easier and quicker. It cuts through cardboard like it's butter and also easily slices through different kinds of packing tape and mailing envelopes. This is a great knife for boxes. Learned about it on podcast: "No Dumb Questions." Wish I would have known about it years ago. It cuts boxes and tape like butter but is almost impossible to cut yourself with.I get so many cardboard boxes a week that it drives my husband crazy. I hated using the utility razor blade because I have curious, naughty dogs and cats. And it caused callouses. This cutter is a game changer! I thought this would be a waste of $10. It was the BEST $10 I've ever spent! It's VERY sharp for cardboard but not for your thigh if you accidentally went past the cardboard and hit your thigh. (If that makes sense.) This cutter goes through cardboard better than a butter knife through (some) butter.Seriously, if you're hesitating on getting it and you have a lot of cardboard to break down, just get it! You won't regret it!Been using these for a few years now. They are great at cutting cardboard…the serrated edge cuts cleanly, and much safer than utility knives. I keep at least three around: one downstairs, one upstairs and one outside. They are also great for opening plastic bags of landscaping materials: mulch, potting mix, potting soil, fertilizer. The bags are big, heavy and bulky, so the safety benefits of the knives become even more important. Lightweight and sturdy…This item was very affordable, simple to use, and very safe for opening packages. I Purchased this after I read an article about emergency room visits for knife wounds that were incurred accidentally while opening packages.Very good initially but after using it on a couple of large boxes I don't think it's as sharp as it was. Not sure if it can be sharpenedMy initial impression of the knife was does this thing honestly work? It is so much better than a box cutter at cutting cardboard and makes much lighter work of it.Very handy for breaking down cardboard into smaller sections for recycling. Handy for opening packages. Not sure how I made do without it!So useful for opening all sorts of packaging and much safer than scissors. Brilliant product.works perfectly, definetly recommend
