Description
OTC Crankshaft Positioning Tool for use on 1993 and newer Ford 4.2L V6; 4.6L 2 valve and 4.6L 4-valve V8, 5.4L V8, and 6.8L V10 engines. Handy tool prevents accidental movement of the crankshaft when doing camshaft or timing chain service or installation on these 'interference' engines. Preventing timing misalignment on these 'interference' design Ford engines is critical as valves will contact pistons if the timing chain is installed in an incorrect position, resulting in severe damage. Simply install crankshaft positioning tool over crankshaft snout (aligning crankshaft woodruff key with keyway on tool) and engine front cover alignment dowel to correctly position crank at TDC. OTC recommends (but does not require) that the No. 6024 Crankshaft Alignment Tool be used with Nos. 6009 and 6020 Camshaft alignment tools to safeguard alignment when servicing cams or chains. Tool is same as Ford No. 303-448. Value is at the core of the OTC tool and equipment portfolio. For a simple repair or the most complex drivability concern, these award-winning tools universally solve problems faster, and at better value, than any other product line available. Whether it’s a specialty tool or unique piece of service equipment, OTC provides top solutions to modern automotive service challenges while increasing technicians’ productivity and shop profits.

The tool does fit the crank but does not fit over the block dowel pin as indicated. The slot in the tool needs to be longer. It will work to give an accurate measurement if you look at it straight ahead. Finally!!! Ordered one from e bay tryna save a couple bucks since I will only need it once hopefully and it didnt fit. Then turned around and ordered another cheap one from amazon and it didnt fit either so I returned it. Like most others say (because they are selling the same cheap knockoff trash on amazon & e bay) they crankshaft key way wont fit as well as the alignment dowel wont fit in the knockoff. The cheapo is just flat out cut wrong with too small of a slot for the crankshaft keyway as well as the alignment dowel hole on the tool is cut too small. Finally decided to pay the cost for the OTC one and I should’ve just done it from jump. Fits perfectly and im glad in my desperation to try and get the job done that I didnt try to eyeball it with the crankshaft sprocket dot pointing straight down cuz when I stuck the tool on I was definitely off. Also tried the e bay that I had filed down in the attempt to male it fit. While I was closer than I was with the dot I was still off with that as well despite my best efforts to file both sides of the crank key slot evenly. At the end of the day, dont even mess around with the knockoff...get the OTC tool and get it done right.I highly doubt any one of the other reviews for the knockoff tools are legit unless somehow they got one from a lucky run of tools but I would avoid them like the plague. For all of those who are and will be like me (just getting around to doing their timing job on theor 5.4L 3v, dont mess around tryna cheap out with the non otc tool and then leave urself in a pickle where u are just pressing to get done so u file the tool tryna make it fit or u just eyeball it using the sprocket. Just get the real one. Its the most important and entire point of the job so why not make sure it is done 100% right.Worked on my 09 f150. 3v 5.4l xlt 4x4. Does the job it's supposed to but for what it is? It's very expensive.Nice tool but in no way shape or form worked on a 2002 crown victoria 4.6 engine. The slotted hole that slips on the dowel pin to lock crankshaft into position was drilled in the wrong location. After breaking out my drill and enlongating the slot I made it work.Well worth the money !!!There was heavy burrs on the keyway. Filed them down and gave a bit of a lead angle to make sliding onto the crank easier. Before starting my timing job, was told again and again how easy this tool makes getting the timing marks perfect. But when it came time to mount the tool, the locator pin slot was offset just off to the left of the dowel pin. I spent an hour or more carefully filing the slot with a chainsaw file to get it to reach over to mate with the alignment dowel. I’m 2 for2 with OTC tools that didn’t work like they should. Or I should say 2 and throughAnother great product by OTC, simple and easy to use. Many years of use. Came to door quicker than expectedRequired to do timing chain and cam phasers on Ford 5.4 tritonA tool you need if changing timing components to set crank to top centre .This was listed as an OTC brand tool! It’s not, it’s some knockoff brand. The quality of this tool is horrible. Definitely not OTCA necessity for doing the chains and tensioners on the 5.4.
