Description
At Harvest Lane Honey, our roots run deep. We have a rich history in professional beekeeping. As our reputation has expanded, fellow beekeepers have looked to our experience and asked for the same high quality hive components and tools of the trade that make our bee farms so successful. HLH has pioneered, designed, and manufactured all new products for the beekeeping industry. We are the mill. We employ a staff of highly skilled craftsman to offer the custom woodware beehives and supplies that are the foundation of our reputation. We maintain strict quality controls to ensure that every product we ship meets our golden honey standard. Like our hives, our business is buzzing with productivity. Our education and working knowledge are second to none. We call the Oquirrh Mountains of Utah our home, meaning we have a unique understanding of how to successfully keep bees through the warmest summers and coldest winters. This experience assists others in the successful establishment and maintenance of healthy, safe, and productive hives. From the casual backyard beekeeper to the professional beekeeper, we have you covered. Our mission is to help reverse the declining population of honey bees and ensure that there is a future for our industrious friends that make our planet beautiful and sweeten it with naturally pure honey. By keeping bees, you too can help preserve the delicate balance of nature through pollination. So You Want To Become A Beekeeper? It's easier than you think... If you're reading this, it means that you have given at least some thought about beekeeping. Whether you're looking for a new hobby or want to have access to delicious raw honey, you've come to the right place. Beekeeping is a fun and rewarding hobby that's not as difficult as you might think. How Can I Get Started? We're glad you asked! Harvest Lane Honey has everything you need to get started including Starter Kits, Protective Clothing, Tools, Feed and Feeders, Education, and Live Bees. See the items we recommend in the list to the right. How Much Time Will It Take? After setting up your hives and installing bees in the Spring, you'll just need to inspect your hives about once every 10-14 days throughout the summer, adding additional boxes or feed as necessary. Figure on about 30 minutes per hive. The bees will do the rest. If you choose to extract and harvest honey at some point, that will take a little longer. Then close up the hives in the Fall. What You Need To Get Started 1-2 Hive Kits or Separate Components Protective Clothing Basic Beekeeping Tools Feed and Feeder A Mentor, Friend, or Club to Help Teach You the Basics Live Bees A Good Attitude and Willingness to Try What Products are Available? Hive Kits Harvest Lane offers starter kits for the new beekeeper that includes everything you need to get started except protective clothing and live bees. Separate Hive Components As your hive grows or you want to split an existing hive, you'll need additional components like deep brood boxes, honey supers, bottom boards, additional frames and foundation, inner covers, and tops. Harvest Lane offers all of these. And the best part? These components are all made in the USA. Protective Clothing Getting stung is no fun! At Harvest Lane Honey, we take the sting out of beekeeping by offering a full line of protective clothing including suits, jackets, gloves, and veils. Hive Tools Beekeeping requires that you have certain tools when inspecting and working with your hives. These include a Smoker, Hive Tool, Bee Brush, Frame Grips, and a Frame Rest. We sell a full line of tools and accessories to assist you. Delicious Food for You and the Bees Feed for Bees When the flowers aren't in bloom and nectar isn't flowing, bees still need to eat. You can offer them supplemental food such as liquid feed, pollen patties, and dry powder or pollen substitute. We have a complete line of feed to keep your colony healthy and growing. Feeders We offer entrance feeders, in-hive or frame feeders, and top feeders to use. Harvesting Tools Bees only need enough honey stores to get them through the Fall and Winter. However, they will produce a lot more. You can have access to these excess honey stores by purchasing uncapping tools such as a knife, scratcher, or roller. Fresh, Raw Honey If you want to reap the sweet rewards of this hobby, you can purchase an extractor, honey buckets, and containers to store your honey. Help Reverse Declining Bee Population By becoming a beekeeper, planting bee-friendly flowers and gardens, and limiting the use of chemicals and pesticides around your house or farm, you can help reverse the declining bee population in the United States. Not only will this help the environment, but it also will help continue to provide us with delicious food to eat, as bees and other pollinating species impact fruits, vegetables, and grains that our vital to our daily nutrition.
