This is a heavy duty tool rest that is made from solid steel rod. It appears to have a chrome plated finish. The length of the tool rest following the curve of the small rod is about 8 inches. I tested the top rod for hardness. One end of the rod I could cut with a file. I believe that is due to softening from welding. The remainder or the rod I could not cut with a file or dimple with an automatic center punch. So it should be very good at holding up for lathe work. I am very happy with the tool rest. The shaft does measure at exactly 25mm diameter.
