I found this multi-tool by accident on Amazon, and I decided to give it a chance. In the past, I had purchased a different mini multi-tool to replace another one that I had for many years, but this last one was taken away from me by TSA agents in an airport. However, this previous multi-tool that I had purchased here on Amazon had a very poor quality, so I had to return it. My expectations on this mini multi-tool were very low because of my previous experience. Notwithstanding, after a month of use, I could say that for the $12 that I paid, this is one of the best choices. It’s still not the most top notch out there by all means because I noticed some problems on it, but overall it’s worth it. Initially, I was planning on getting the very famous Leatherman Squirt or the Gerber Dime, but I didn’t really like the pack of tools that they had. Especially their absurd Phillips screwdrivers, that were more like flat screwdrivers. I meant that because I actually do use it a lot, and I needed a true Phillips, which is something that, fortunately, this multi-tool has. These are my thoughts on this multi-tool:1-SizeIt is bigger than my thumb but perfect to attach it on a keychain. Compared to my other multi-tool, the Leatherman Surge, it looks small. It is 2 3/4” long and ½” in thickness approximately. It could have been thinner as there is much space left among the different tools. Those spaces make it looks bulky inside my pocket. However, in terms of carriablity (mobility) it is still a decent size for me. Actually, I found those spaces to be somewhat a positive thing. For example, you can hide a needle and a magnet to make a compass in case you get lost, of course. It is disappointing that those engineers who designed this thing didn’t think of getting the most out of these gaps and at least add a pair of tweezers or any other extra tiny tool.2-Finish and MaterialThe material overall feels good, and the tools and pliers’ handles are polished as well, in other words, that gives a smooth feeling to the touch. This is good because when using too much pressure on the handles, my hand hurt less. However, on the pliers joints, I could see that there were some small groves on the surface, and those parts weren’t polished either. It is not affecting the use of the pliers, but it was something that I wanted to remark regarding the quality. I am not very sure what kind of metal this multi-tool is made of neither where it was made. I found out that the company that makes them, Silverline, is from England, but I ignore where they make their products. I was kind of surprise when I didn’t see any lettering engraved on the multi-tool like many other companies do, but the package that it came with did have the company’s name. I am not sure if this is a bad or a good sign. I meant that since I know that there are some no-name tools, especially those made in China, which are replicated and sold in a much lower quality.3-ColorSpeaking for myself, overall I object to the tendency when metallic parts of tools are painted because over time it comes off and scratch. I’d rather have them without paint, and with the original metal color exposed. The metallic green color of this multi-tool is really eye-catching and, to be honest, looks very good. However, I’d rather have something less outstanding because it would be more concealable, and it will probably reduce the chance of people from stealing it. The disappointing part was that, when it arrived, there were some very small parts without paint. It seems like it was scratched or it wasn’t painted at all in the factory. Meanwhile, it is just a matter of time when this thing will look like an old rusty car’s color from the past century.4-SharpnessUnfortunately, the knife wasn’t sharp at all, and it was a little dull; hence, I had to sharpen it. By the same token, the can opener and the saw weren’t either. Even the flat screwdriver has kind of a curved edge instead of having the tips refined for a better and more precise contact.5-UsabilityThe tools are flicked out on the outside to be used without having to open the pliers’ handles like other multi-tools that I’ve seen out there. That’s a big advantage because, in an imaginary emergency, this will allow me to quickly use any tool and save time. On the other hand, the handles are kind of curved on the inside when completely opened, which makes the grip really uncomfortable and painful when applying too much pressure on them. They should’ve been curved on the outside for a better grip. I consider this to be a design flaw.6-PliersSo far, I can tell that the cutting wire have a decent quality. I tested them out when I was cutting wires, and I didn’t see any worn down marks. The pliers definitely don’t have much resistance on them; the spring is not very strong. My previous multi-tool was spring loaded too, and sometimes when cutting hard wires with the pliers, they often got jammed up due to the poor hardness of the spring to open them again. I hope the spring doesn’t come off because they are exposed in the pliers’ back, which makes it easily to come off (I can tell that by my own experience in the past). By the same token, the pliers have a little wobble with them. You can see that when you look down on the needle nose of the pliers. (see the pics)7-Tools in generalThis mini multi-tool has the best selection of tools that I have seen so far. This is the main point that led me to decide that I was going to keep this tool. However, not everything is perfect since I noticed some issues with some of the tools. I will mention them down below.• The knife. It is on the side where the key ring is, which I think is a design flaw. When extended, it is very inconvenient to use because the chain of the key ring hinders the cutting way of the blade. This is badly engineered and absurd. I had to modify the key ring to avoid this problem. Now I installed a small hook so that way the key ring can be easily removed in order to take out the multi-tool and use the blade. As I mentioned before, it wasn’t very sharp. Besides, I don’t like the way it was designed since the tip it is kind of curved, and it forms a triangular shape as it backs off. Therefore this is a negative point, keeping in mind that the knife is one of the tools that I use the most.• The file. I haven’t used this feature so far. It feels like a round of bumps. This is the feature that I less liked over the others. I actually filed the tip in the hope that I will make an awl instead, which is a lot more useful.• The scissors. They are spring loaded. The blades are not completely bent in towards each other. That’s why there is a small gap between them, which causes to not cut very well.• The bottle opener. I haven’t tested it yet, but I want to highlight the screwdriver that is in the tip of it. For my needs, it is big to be used with small screws. It should’ve been better if it was designed like those small precision flathead screwdrivers for glasses. I actually used a file to wear it down in order to make it smaller. However, the results didn’t match my expectations.Other than that, the rest of the tools work well.8-Other issuesAnother thing that I noticed is that the tools are kept together by slip joints o rivets, if I can call them that, instead of adjustable pivots or screws. That made the tools really tight and hard to unfold. However, after applying lubricant to the joints and a little bit of use, they did loosen up. Although, I did notice that some of the tools were tighter than others. For example, the knife feels looser than the file. Another thing that I have to mention is that neither the pliers nor do the mini tools have a proper lock mechanism. The pliers when closed don’t open up that easily because they stay in their place by pressure. Notwithstanding, I would have liked them more if they had a decent lock mechanism. The same thing applies to the mini tools; actually this is very annoying because some tools, such as the knife, fold down very easily when too much pressure is applied to them. Furthermore, the tools when open up completely are not vertical. They are kind of curved or sloped facing to the outside of the pliers. The problem here is that there is a piece of metal at the base of the tools that doesn’t allow them to open to the complete 90°.I forgot to mention that it also comes with a case with belt strap. I haven’t used it, and I think that I never will, but it would be appreciated for those who want to give it a try, I guess. In short, after two months of use this multi-tool, it has held up great but has some issues that have let me down a little. However, it is the most useful tool that I had, and I hope it will last for many years. This might be the best choice out there for the price, size, usability, and all the features that you can get with it.***** Update 2019 ******The scissors' spring snapped. What a shame, but this is still a very handy tool.It was the perfect size however the bolt is so tight its nearly impossible to get anything to pull out. I even used lubricant to try and make it easier. Still didn't work. Guess it will just take a long time for it to loosen
