They're delightfully lightweight. That's the only good thing I can say.An 8-pound pork shoulder is too heavy to lift without the tongs twisting, both in your hand and across each other. The paint peels, flaking who-knows-what. Hopefully not onto your food.I'm buying a replacement, but not another set of these.Perfect length for what I need them for. Sturdy, rivets looked good, nice "feel" to them and you're able to easily grasp and move things around. Only gripe my friend had was that the handle could have better ergonomics. But he does like to complain....I like em. I'd recommend.UPDATE 2018: The person who received this had the following suggestion for the manufacturer: Skip the orange paint. It flakes off eventually. He would have rather had a plain metal tong. We live in a cold climate. IF the handle had some type of coating that would be great to prevent frostbite when grilling during the winter. The tongs are still functioning great.I initially gave this tool a VERY poor review because I was trying to use it to move logs in my fireplace. Well.... Me being the dummy that I am, I didn't realize until a few weeks ago that it is actually designed for BBQ use and to that end, It has become an invaluable tool when I use my Pit Barrel Cooker to place individual pieces of WHITE HOT Charcoal exactly where I want them. It also lets me place smoking wood chunks where they'll work best and even lift a full charcoal basket enough to shake off the outside layer of ashes and get that charcoal going again half way through a long cook. If you need to handle large pieces of lump charcoal or individual briquets while they're lit, THIS thing works great..!This tool is super for snagging those roasting pieces far back in the old Traeger grill without burning your hands. I do not like having to put on gloves everytime I add, turn or remove food from the grill. The deep grill space of our grill demands something that can clamp and pull, turn and retrieve things like potatoes and veggies that get shoved to the back. This does it. I have had no problem with paint coming off. I plop them on the top rack of the dishwasher and they come out perfect. If you are looking for something to flip brisket in a smoker . . . keep looking. Not built for it. That's not to say they won't make a great chicken wing or hot dog turner. If you cut your spare ribs into individual pieces (don't know anyone who would do that), it could handle those, but a whole slab no way.I have limited ability to bend down and pick things up off the floor. These tongs enable me to pick up the tiniest objects, like a pencil, or a button, and larger objects, like a water glass or a coffee cup. I have four sets of these tongs, one for my home office, one for the bathroom, one for the kitchen, and one near my reclining chair where I watch TV.Great tongs, wish I had gotten the longer ones. Sometimes when I open my smoker the smoke really pours out. The longer ones would make it easier to not brindle myself with smoke. Also, these work fantastic early on in the smoking process, but later on, when the meat is tender, the narrow tips of the tongs can easily "pull" the meat when all you want to do is rotate.Overall I love the original 16 tongs. Must have bought 10 pairs of the 16inch between my use and gifts.I DO NOT LIKE The new 16 inch with SS . I saw complaints that people did not like the aluminum, so I guess you can not please everyone. Personally I do not like the change. They are less precise and it feels like the build quality is of an add-on hack. Why don't you offer both models ... 16 years regular and 16 with SS?As it stands now, I will not order the 16inch with SS if that's the only version.
